We are back from our second “Around The Baltic Sea in Kayaks” kayaking trip. First one was Riga Gulf from Ainazi to Kolka we travelled in one week.

This time we made a distance  from Nidden (Kursiu Nerija, Lithuania) to  Jurkalne (Latvia) totalling  202 km. It took 10 days.

Water was guite cold for multi days trip – 6-9 degrees Celsius. Despite average wind direction statistics in May, most of the time we had to paddle against North wind.

Most challenging part was entering open sea through Klaipeda mole from Kursiu Nerija Gulf .

Ship dissapearing in the fog

North wind, raising sea, dense  ship traffic in breakwater entrance and heavy fog made it a quite extreme experience.   Looks like Lithuanian open sea coastline is more open to winds and can be more challenging than Latvian seas.

There were also some really nice and sunny paddling days with almost no wind and few downwind days.

After making 200 km with three days off due to the weather we had to stop. Weather forecast to next days was bad and we run out of time limit for this expedition. To complete Latvian coastline we have to make additional ~ 130 km from Jurkalne to Kolka

Surfing. Day off in Pavilosta
