Latvia is rich in rivers. We provide kayaking & canoeing tours – boat rental with service in western part of Latvia – Kurzeme. Our rental base in Renda is located in Nature Park of beautiful Abava river.
On regular basis we offer:
- one to multi day Abava river routes and
- 4-5 days canoeing expedition from Usma lake to the sea, which includes 3 rivers and the lake.
For larger groups there are also other rivers possible- Irbe, Uzava, Tebra, Durbe
Abava river
There are options for various length kayaking & canoeing tours in Abava River – starting from easy 3-4 hours day trip (no previous canoing / kayaking experience needed in summer) up to 5 days canoeing expedition. We can flexibly service even one boat in Abava river, unless you choose weekends. However to make sure we are available, contact us in advance. 1 day Abava river routes
Most convenient 1 day Abava river routes are with finish in our rental base. Almost no people on the river, there is enough water even in dry summers. Because you finish in our base no additional logistics necessary and no restrictions on time you spend on river during the day.

2-3 days Abava river routes
Abava river is 100 km long. There are several options for 2-3 days routes depending on your preferences. Or you can do all river at once. In general you can divide the river in two parts – the “civilized” one and the “wild” one. Civilized part is considered to be from Kandava to Renda (50 km), but the wild one – from Renda to the mouth of the river Venta (34 km). From there you have to paddle 7 km (possibly against wind) in river Venta to get to finish.

From Usma lake to the sea
Canoeing & kayaking adventure from Usma to the sea is made up of interconnected waterways – three rivers and a lake. From Usma to the sea is about 90 km long, usually a 4-5 days journey, starting in the Engure river and finishing in the Irbe river by the sea. Popular among the tourists who want to spend a week of vacation on the water exploring. Despite some signs of civilization there are no easilly accessible shops along the way. You have to take everything with you in boat. Therefore to fit in, most suitable boats for this route are:
- canoes or,
- each person has his own double kayak. Stuff for 4-5 days in place of other paddler

Engure river
First river along the route is Engure. A small picturesque river that connects Usma and Puze lakes. Unlike most other rivers of this size, it is also navigable in summer, but similar to other small rivers there are possible obstacles – fallen trees across the river. The water level is regulated by the flow between the lakes and the Ugāle mill. The river is winding, there are few straight sections.

Engure falls into the Lake Puze. If the weather is windy, cross the lake on tailwind side.

Rinda river
After crossing Puze lake route continues in Rinda river. First 9 km of the river are wider – basically feels like a series of small lakes. After these, a winding section follows, but before the village of Rinda, the river was once dredged, so it means more patient paddling. After Rinda village approaching the Irbe river, Rinda starts to flow better.

Irbe
The most popular river of Kurzeme. It forms from confluence of rivers Rinda and Stende. Irbe river is relatively short – a little more than 30 km, but beautifull. Good flow. The shores are formed by sand dunes. Some may think the last 5 km are relatively boring, but the reward is finish by the sea, which is definetily worth it!

Individual approach to each client
On all routes, we provide a logistics service so that you can get back to your car after canoe / kayak trip.
If you are up to 8 people, we bring to start / finish everyone, if the group is bigger, we take only drivers.
Boat and drivers transport is included in rental price.
